Dog treats, beauty products and other new pup wellness products – WWD

Pet products shine this summer.

Trending beauty mainstays, including CBD and vegan hair dyes, are making their way into puppy products.

“Let’s call it ‘beautification,'” says Stephanie Wissink, an analyst at Jefferies who covers both the beauty and pet industries. The trend comes as people continue to treat their pets like humans, she says.

“It’s not ‘pet owner’ anymore, it’s ‘pet parent.’ We see it in foods, treats, and treatments. It takes all of humanity around this luxurious experience and brings it to the pet category.

Wissink pointed to Chewy, the pet e-commerce platform with customer profiles based on pets, not owners.

CBD-infused edibles, as well as juice-inspired treats and vegan temporary hair dyes, are among the latest generation of products.

“As humans, he spends on human-like categories and high-end products,” Wissink said. “Companies like Chewy just promote the idea of care, passion and love for your pets.”

Pets also get a fashion upgrade. Last month, Gucci unveiled a pet collection, while Tommy Hilfiger signed a licensing deal with Kanine Pets World Ltd. to launch a dog collection. On the beauty side, Aesop and Ouai also make pet products.

Business is also said to be booming – growing more than 15%, according to NielsenIQ. Here, beauty-inspired pet products that pay off.
