Briana King loved to skateboard until an accident left her with mobility issues. The model sought solace at her local skate park, believing she could still hang out there even though she couldn’t participate. âThe majority of my time there was spent yelling at my friends from the bench to move their hips, straighten their backs and give them other tips to help them improve their skating,â she says. Word spread and people began to seek his advice. As she recovered, King began to organize local get-togethers. These eventually turned into Show only, where she offers classes to skaters around the world who identify as LGBTQ +, girls or ânon-traditionalâ.
Now that she was spending more time outdoors, King had to re-evaluate her relationship with skin care, and especially sunscreen. âI went through a long phase of thinking that SPF was useless because I wouldn’t get sunburned,â she says, which turned out to be wrong when her skin started to burn and, ultimately, to peel and dry out. Sure, everyone recommended sunscreen, but, King admits, “I just wasn’t ready to try it until I was ready to try it.” Now, she says, her skin is better than ever: “No more peeling skin for me, and my fine lines are gone!”
The rest of her skincare knowledge comes from makeup artists she regularly works with on set and tour. “Too often I have received recommendations from people with the best skin and it does absolutely nothing for me, but makeup artists will be working on my skin for weeks at a time, so I trust their recommendations.” Mimi Quiquine is one of his biggest influences. âWhen I’m on set with her, she massages every oil on my face and always makes sure my skin is perfectly hydrated and relaxed before applying just one swipe of makeup.â And Eliven Q was the first to put it on Embryolisse Milk-Cream Concentrate, who taught him the importance of a well hydrated face.
King also deals with eczema, which tends to break out around his mouth and nose. After keeping a food diary, she realized she could manage it by cutting out dairy products and, âoddly enough, deli meatsâ.
Read on to learn about her skincare essentials, including the $ 17 moisturizer that ‘saved’ her skin, the sunscreen she calls a ‘life changer’ and the cream for them. eyes that she has been using for five years.
âIt’s the only cleanser I’ve ever been completely satisfied with. The consistency is amazing; it foams your whole face with a single small dot. It still removes all the dirt and makeup after long days and leaves you feeling hydrated with no residue. If I was stuck on an island, this would be my only product (maybe after SPF, ha!). It has a fresh, flowery scent – I don’t use anything that smells a little artificial.
“[Food writer and TV host] Sophia roe recommended this cream a few years ago. At the time, I was dealing with dry skin because I was not wearing any SPF. It saved me and my peeling skin, and it’s been with me ever since. It really helped change the texture of my skin – I was smoother than ever thanks to this moisturizer. It is a very rich lotion that feels and acts like an oil but lasts longer than any oil. It smells like Grandma Willow from Pocahontas, if we only knew what she smelled like – just fresh and healing.
âThis is the smoothest, creamiest eye cream. I’m a lover of all things oily, and this eye cream has worked for me. This is the only product I don’t have left to try something else. I love the consistency and don’t feel like I can get it with any other eye cream so I’ve been stuck with it and have been for a good five years now. The consistency is very similar to that of a whipped avocado and continues like an avocado. I’m surprised it doesn’t smell like avocado. I would cover my whole face with this eye cream if I could. It brought so much moisture to my skin.
âIt only has one ingredient, so it always makes me feel comfortable. It instantly brightens your skin – instant results always look great. I have been using it for eight years and still find my skin dull without it so Kosmea will be forever for me. Plus, the scent brings me back to my grandmother’s rose bush.
Personally, I like the oil before the moisturizer. My skin works best with oil. Right after washing my face, my damp skin absorbs the oil immediately, unlike a moisturizer. My favorite moisturizer needs an oil base to work “properly” for my skin routine. “
âSPF has been life changing for my skincare, and the stick makes it easy to apply all day long when I’m skating. All of Sun Bum’s products smell like a tropical getaway and never like that sunscreen scent we remember when we were kids. In addition, it does not leave a white cast. They sponsored my tour a few years ago and I’ve been in love with it ever since.
âThe consistency is super thick. I originally used it for an overnight mask, but now I find myself using it all day. My lips are fully protected from all types of weather and I make sure to keep two with me during the winter. It’s ridiculous to say, but it tastes natural. It also has a very subtle scent, almost like a flower – a naturally sweet scent. “
